Greenhouse Heating

Propane is clean burning, so it is ideal for greenhouse heating. Propane heaters can be used individually or in combination with multiple units. In northern states, it is recommended that one unit heater be placed for every 150-175 square feet of greenhouse floor space, while in central states, one heater is recommended for every 200 square feet of floor space. In southern states, one heater is deemed sufficient for every 225 square feet of floor space. Vented heaters, in particular, are recommended for greenhouses.

Vented propane greenhouse heaters include these typical features:

  • Metal casing equipped
  • Stainless steel burner
  • Vertical flues for maximum circulation
  • 100 percent safety gas cutoff
  • Battery-operated thermostat with adjustable clock

The average price of a vented 25,000 Btu capacity propane greenhouse heater is approximately $500. The propane gas regulator and special thermostat options cost extra.
